MENTORINGMONDAY Mentoring Monday: Theresa LaVelle

I hope you all had a great weekend. It was cold this weekend here in CA, but it was nice to bundle up and just stay home. I’m excited to have my friend, Theresa LaVelle be featured today. Like I’ve said before, I get to work with many amazing artists. Theresa started working with us a couple months ago at Fox and needless to say she’s shining bright! She is an amazing artist and a genuine person! I’m excited to have her featured today!

How did you get your start- I started out working for SWELL.COM, an online surf shop. My days mostly consisted of assisting the head photographer, preparing images for their website, and basically doing anything that anyone needed! It was while I was working for Swell that I was contacted to come interview for a graphic design/merchandising position at …LOST clothing. With no real experience under my belt, I was lucky that they felt I had talent and potential! I spent the next 4 years as the Senior Graphic Designer for the Juniors line. I also designed for both the Men’s and Junior’s lines of FMF racing, In God’s Hands and freelanced a bit for Metal Mulisha along the way. Most recently I reside at FOX racing and I’m loving every minute of it icon smile Mentoring Monday: Theresa LaVelle

Whats your favorite piece logo/design and/or artwork you’ve created- I think my most favorite piece was a car hood I painted live at the Orange County Punk Rock Picnic. A good friend of mine found it at the junk yard, patched it up and primer-ed it for me! He even got the lights working! It just kind of evolved from scrap into this really cool piece by the end of the day!

Who do you want to work with- I’d lovvvve to work with Shawn Barber one day!

What part of Design is the most challenging and do you dislike most- For me I think the hardest part is that I am never satisfied. I am constantly looking at things and thinking they could be better. If it were up to me I’d probably re-work pieces for days and days, but with deadlines that’s not an option icon smile Mentoring Monday: Theresa LaVelle

Any Advice for ladies who are just starting out in a career path similar to yours- If an intern opportunity is available, take it! Even if you aren’t learning exactly what you want, it’s all about meeting people in the industry and making connections! Also, (a huge one) don’t get wrapped up in the gossip and drama that is so common in the workplace! It’s draining and doesn’t encourage your creativity in a positive way. Surround yourself with positive people who support you and the work that you produce, and your work will thrive.
