roominsp Room Inspiration: Wonderful in White

Holy Moly! It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything. Sorry about that. Last week I was feeling less then inspired so I opted out of posting on my blog. But, I’m back and ready to get this show on the road! Who doesn’t love the clean feeling of a white room? I know many think padded cell when you hear that, but I love how fresh a white room can look, with little pops of subtle color. Mm..makes me think of Spring and the fresh feeling!

Valentine DIY

Posted by admin on 13th February 2012

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I’m sitting here right now watching the Grammy’s with my lovely husband. Eee! Excited! So far its had some great performances! Excited for the rest. Well as most of you know Valentine’s day is just around the the corner..Tuesday. This year I wanted to create something different instead of the tradition Valentine’s Day card. I was searching through the internet and found this amazing site called Oh Happy Day. She has some very different DIY posts and one of them was mini pinatas! So I thought this would be awesome to do for a Valentine’s day cards. Here is her tutorial.

photo 21 Valentine DIY

Gather your supplies. You will need party streamers, and scissors. I found streamers at Target for $.99. Next you will need to find the item you will use to wrap the streamers around. I found paper mache hearts at Michaels for $1. In the tutorial that I had found she used cereal boxes and cut them out and taped them together. Next take your streamers and start folding them in half. Once you have folded them in half then cut into the streamers without going all the way through. So you have a fringe like texture. (As pictured in the first photo.)

photo 22 Valentine DIY

After you have cut enough pieces of streamers for however many little hearts you plan to make you are now ready to begin. Lay out your items and start to making your mini pinatas!

photo 24 Valentine DIY

Glue around the top of your item and start to place your streamers around on the area you glued.

photo 23 Valentine DIY

Next glue under your first row and start to place your other color of streamer. And then keep repeating until you are satisfied with the number of rows you want.

photo 25 Valentine DIY

And you have the final product!

Tomorrow is Monday..There will be no Mentoring Monday post, but get ready and stay tuned for a great Giveaway coming up this week!!!!! I hope you all have a great day! Now..Back to the Grammy’s!

Who’s ready for another Style File!! icon biggrin Style File: Theresa Meet my friend Theresa, you might remember her from her Mentoring Monday post. Since Theresa has started working with us over here at Fox her and I have become great friends. I’m really excited to have her as my second victim! hehe!

In my eyes, I’m probably the WORST person to ask about personal style, being that I wait until about 5 minutes before I have to be somewhere to throw something on! icon smile Style File: Theresa I spend so much time (for work) researching fashion and art that when it comes down to dressing myself I’m usually on the back-burner. Most importantly I try to be comfortable. I am definitely a jeans and t-shirt type gal, but I do love to dress up for a night out and I have way more heels than any one girl should own. (my weakness) I would say if I had a style icon, it would probably be an edgier version of LC, (Lauren Conrad for you non Laguna Beach watchers icon smile Style File: Theresa ). I love her classic, understated look, mixed with great hair and just the perfect amount of makeup.

I’m wearing Forever 21 ripped, colored skinnies and grey lace tights. I am also wearing the Sleep & Pretend Deep V by Hips & Hair (hipsandhair.com), a plaid flannel shirt and an Obey leather jacket. (it’s soooo comfortable and warm, I wear it with everything!) I’ve stacked up a Nixon Kensington watch, a Harajuku Lovers ‘LOVE’ ID bracelet, a Marc Jacobs Latin Veritas Inlustrat leather bracelet, and a 2 finger stud ring from (of course) Forever 21.

MENTORINGMONDAY Mentoring Monday: Sewn Clever

A couple months ago, I attended the Patchwork show in Santa Ana and I stumbled upon this booth called, Sewn Clever. These three mommy’s came up with a little side business. They had the cutest items at their booth. I am so excited that they decided to take part in this today!!!

screensize3 Mentoring Monday: Sewn Clever

Name: We are SewnClever. Comprised of three mommies of different talents but with the same love of creating and crafting. Our names are Michele, Karina, and Carly.

Hometown: We are based out of Orange County, CA but we were all born and raised in different atmospheres. One of us grew up in Lake Forest, CA; one in Orange, CA; and the other all the way in Brazil!

Turn Ons: Karina gravitates towards eco and people friendly design, Michele a good balance of order and chaos, and Carly likes all things cutesy fuzzies particularly with jagged teeth.

Turn Offs: Karina is not into overdone and unpractical design, Michele just can’t stand clutter, and Carly is not into forced art.

Favorite Food: It looks like with this one we all favor JAPANESE food!

Favorite food now: Karina has got the chocolate bug, Michele has been guzzling green juices and smoothies, and Carly is pregnant now so whatever is in arms length!

Favorite place you have traveled to: Karina loved visiting Itamambuca, Sao Paulo/ Brazil, Michele took an amazing trip to Paarl, South Africa, and Carly once visited Japan and is still in disbelief of how amazing that country is!

Favorite Albums: Here’s a quick list from us: Slings (Old Hopeful Trail), Band of Horses (Cease To Begin), The Moon and Antartict (Modest Mouse), Universo ao meu redor (Marisa Monte), Zao (All Else Fails), No Doubt (Tragic Kingdom), She & Him (Volume One), Joy Division (Permanent), Sufjan Stevens (Songs for Christmas), Joanna Newsom (The Milk-Eye Mender), Neutral Milk Hotel (Aeroplane Over the Sea), Old War Shirt (Symbols&Jibberish)

Books or Magazines: We are all inspired by these publications: The Bible, Chicken & Egg, Domino, ReadyMade, Cookie, Whole Living, Nylon magazine, any home decor magazines, I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen.
What Inspires You: Karina gets inspired by one’s personal style, exotic plants, different cultures, and urbanism. While Michele gets her inspiration from each other, nature, music, and anything pre-1960. Carly gets her inspiration from her childhood, other artists who push the envelope, animal’s human characteristics, and her daughter and husband.

How did you start Sewn Clever: We started doing a craft night every Tuesday night as a way to have some time to ourselves away from our awesome families. Eventually we began to realize that we each have such amazing talents and why not join forces and try to earn some extra money derived from our very own bare hands! So we dove right in.

Do you have a Day Job: We are all professional mamas.

What part of your creative process do you find challenging: I think we all equally find it challenging to execute the multitude of ideas we have floating around in our heads! Carly tho, especially has an issue with just starting! She’s the procrastinator.

Any Advice for anyone who is just starting out in a career path similar to yours: Karina says, just keep moving forward…Jk. Have Michele as a partner!!. Michele says, take a risk even if it’s scary. And don’t lose sight of your priorities, we try to make sure our kids come before work….. Unless we were lazy an put off work until the last minute. and Carly says, do it because you love it. When it gets overwhelming or not fun take a step back and refresh your mind and heart to remember why you started in the first place. For the love of it. It’s my labor of love.

telegram Mentoring Monday: Jonathan Bussiere of Hips and Hair

How did you come up with the name Hips and Hair: I made a list in my sketchbook at the time of over 75 names…over the next couple weeks I whittled them down to about 15. I then asked friends what they thought of those, hand wrote the names out to see how I like the letter styles of each, and then had a corporate attorney to a preliminary search for other apparel/art brands with any names similar to the ones I was considering…Hips and Hair won out.

ash Mentoring Monday: Jonathan Bussiere of Hips and Hair

Any Advice for anyone who is just starting out in a career path similar to yours: Unless the survival of your being depends on creating art and or apparel, find something else to do. The market is flooded with some good, mostly bad stuff, so unless your heart is in in 110% get out before you go broke/and or insane.

Thanks so much Jonathan for taking part!
